Chef Collaborative 2000 Tour Visits ARC Greenhouses

Three newspapers covered this tour. The July 12, 2000 Philadelphia Inquirer, the June 27, 2000 Bridgetown News, and the June 27, 2000 Today's Sunbeam. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on the purpose of the tour as follows in a story written by Marilynn Marter, Inquirer Food Writer.

Going straight to the source In search of healthful foods gently produced, chefs seek out the farmers and the growers. It could be lettuce or sweet corn or soft-shell crabs, perhaps heirloom tomatoes or lime basil. If you want certain foods fresh in your kitchen, delivered the very day they are harvested, and you want the best quality, not to mention a reasonable price, then you buy direct. But for busy restaurant chefs, that's not always easy. Enter the Chefs Collaborative 2000, a nonprofit group of chefs and food professionals dedicated to promoting healthful foods produced by environmentally sound, sustainable agriculture and humane husbandry. Collaborative members believe in going straight to the source. So that's what they did, en masse, a couple of weeks ago. A few dozen chefs, restaurateurs and other food pros went trekking through Salem and Cumberland Counties in South Jersey, visiting farms and greenhouses and suppliers. They talked to growers and agriculture agents, with watermen harvesting soft-shell crabs and clams. For some, it was a first on-site visit to current suppliers. For others, it was an introduction.
The story goes on describing the chefs visit to each farm. We were delighted to welcome the chefs to our greenhouses. They had lunch at our greenhouse in a greenhouse we were just building. For some of the chefs we were supplying it was their first visit and we are now supplying some new chefs as a result to their visit.

The chefs took the time to visit our greenhouses. We think the best way to know what you are eating is to know where and how it was grown. We would welcome your visit to the greenhouse. Just use the e-mail to let us know of your interest and we contact you to organize a date.

The following pictures taken at our greenhouses were reproduced from the papers.
